Our holidays are designed for active outdoor-loving people with a reasonable level of fitness. As we tailor-make your holiday we can design a tour for you which will best match your level of fitness. Our easiest Tours are around 30km per day with a rest day every other day the Leisure Seeker.
As our tours are self-led you can decide your own pace, if you want to take it easy and cycle about 10km/hour you will be cycling 3 hours in a day, with as many breaks as you like.
You will be provided with a spare inner tube, a puncture repair kit and a bicycle pump. You will also be taught, if you need to be, how to change an inner tube and repair a puncture, so you will have the satisfaction and independence of being able to do your own running repairs!
Although our tours are mainly self-led we do provide a back-up service should you need us. We maintain our equipment to the highest standards so gear failure is very unusual, but you will feel safe in the knowledge that help is always close at hand.
Generally you will carry on, and that is why it is important to bring comfortable wet weather gear. It is never very cold in Northland hence it is referred to as the Winterless North so you will soon dry out. If the weather is horrendous we will do our best to arrange alternative activities and look at alternative transport for you to your next location.
We do cater for special dietary requirements and ask you to inform us of your needs at the time of booking. Food is an important part of your tour and we know you will not be disappointed with the delicious meals available.
We have been discerning with the choice of accommodation we offer. We have hand-picked all the accommodation from the lodges and homestays to the back-packers option.
The lodges and homestays have been picked for their location, charm and quality most, of which have en-suite bathrooms. They are a treat to stay at giving well-earned comfort after a day cycling!
The backpacker option is not as luxurious as the lodges, but all are very clean and charming. Most offer twin share rooms and shared bathrooms.
The youngest we recommend is 12 years. Some routes are suitable for toddlers and we have trailers available. Tandems are also an option for younger folk. We are pleased to say there is no upper age limit! Keep on Pedaling!
Northland enjoys a sub-tropical climate and is known as the Winterless North. Cycling is possible throughout the year.
In summer temperatures vary from an average maximum of 26ºC to average minimum of 17ºC (80F 60F). In winter temperatures vary from an average maximum of 16ºC to an average minimum of 10ºC (60F 50F). Northland receives 1500mm of rain a year and, because of its narrow seaboard, rain can fall at any time of the year. Warm temperatures and plenty of rain give a unique abundance of sub-tropical plants found only in Northland.v>
